¡Soy sano! creates pathways to health care access

FHDC is a proud recipient of funding for one year from the Oregon Health Authority’s I’m healthy! / ¡Soy sano! initiative, which helps children and teens connect to free primary and preventive health services across Oregon’s safety net clinic system. Youth that qualify for I’m healthy! / ¡Soy sano! are under 19, and because of immigration status, are not eligible for state and federal health insurance programs in Oregon. Read more about this statewide initiative at www.imhealthy.org.

More than 60% of FHDC’s community are women and children, with many reporting barriers to accessing health care. FHDC creates services for youth so they can live healthy lives, which has made this partnership an easy fit. Our goal is to reach all families with children in our residential housing complexes—including in Woodburn, Salem, Stayton, Sublimity, Independence and in our newest Silverton property—with information about I’m healthy! / ¡Soy sano!. From there, we aim to provide at least 100 children referrals for free primary and preventive health care services at partner I’m healthy! / ¡Soy sano! clinics. Local I’m healthy! / ¡Soy sano! partner clinics include Salud and Pacific Pediatrics in Woodburn and Lancaster Family Health Center and Willamette Family Medical Center in Salem.

FHDC has dedicated four staff members to I’m healthy! / ¡Soy sano!: Outreach Coordinators include Fabiola Camacho, Margarita Bautista and Maria Maciel; Emilio Hernandez III serves as Program Manager.

We look forward to continuing to build programs and assets that promote and empower our residents and youth to lead healthy lives.
