This month, Nuevo Amanecer had a pachanga. What is traditionally labeled “National Night Out,” was re-coined to Dia del Vecino, or Neighborhood Day, to reflect the cross-sector connections we are building in our communities.
We were joined in the party by the Woodburn Fire Department, the Woodburn Police Dept., Alejandro Salazar from Merrit, Board Member Susana Rodriguez of Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace, and Gustavo Gutierrez of Oregon Housing & Community Services, among others. A special GRACIAS to AWARE Food Bank who donated cookies & chips; the City of Woodburn, who donated 50 bus passes; the Woodburn Aquatic Center, who donated 30 passes; and the Lake Grove Presbyterian Church, who once again donated backpacks to support the event.
There were about 60 families present, around 200 adults & children, and from every property/phase in Woodburn (NA I, II, IV & Esperanza Court).
We danced, sang, ate, toured firetrucks, connected with neighbors and community members, and felt supported in our communities.
Thanks to Gustavo Gutierrez for capturing the event and these great photos!
