The Woodburn School District held several meetings around town to get input from parents on what they are looking for in a new District Superintendent. Meetings were held at partner organization CAPACES, various elementary schools in Woodburn, and with drop-ins at Chemeketa & Safeway. A total of ten were held with in both English & Spanish. FHDC’s Cipriano Ferrel Education Center reported the largest turnout with Promotores and residents comprising of 20 adults (26 including Laura Isiordia from The Ford Family Foundation, FHDC staff, WSD representatives, and childcare providers).
In the words of Jenne Marquez, Executive Secretary to the Superintendent & School Board for WSD, “[Cipriano – Nuevo Amanecer] was our most well-attended meeting…” The WSD provided childcare and snacks for all families. We look forward to future civic engagement opportunities where our residents can influence the direction of local education and the selection of leaders who represent the best interests of our communities.
