Celebrating Dia de Reyes with community, food, and culture is natural in our communities. At Colonia Amistad in Independence, Oregon several families came together to celebrate the tradition based on Catholicism that is celebrated throughout most of Spain and Latin America. It is a day when children traditionally get presents, which are attributed to the Three Wise Men. A traditional Rosca de Reyes cake is also consumed, which harbors a secret figurine inside. Whomever gets the slice of cake with the figurine is responsible for hosting and feeding families, friends, and neighbors for Día de la Candelaria in February.
We are grateful to support the continuation of these traditions for our multicultural families to learn and discover more about themselves, their ancestry, and their connection to others in the community.
