On Saturday, March 7, 2020, 21 female middle school students and 30 parents/high school students from Woodburn and Salem attended the yearly Oregon State University’s Discovering the Scientist Within event. The purpose of the event is to appeal to young girls and inspire them to pursue interests and studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

Middle school students participated in educational activity sessions with a focus on STEM education, while parents and high school students received general information about the benefits of attending college, applying for college, and paying for college. The event included a college-student panel to answer questions and smaller group tours of campus.

Bus transportation from Salem and Woodburn and lunch were provided by the program for the attending participants.
