FHDC, in partnership with Evolve Workforce and Multifamily Housing Services, would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to the graduates of the Promotores program. This past week, participants celebrated their graduation after completing ten specialized training sessions. The training provided will empower each graduate to effectively represent their communities and act as a bridge to the organization, while also paving the way for prosperity for themselves and their families. Throughout the program, they enhanced their computer skills, learned about budgeting and credit scores, explored the area of advocacy, received training on the importance of mental health in various settings, and developed their leadership abilities.
Fernando Velazquez Figueroa, who led this cohort, shares, “I am very proud of their hard work, commitment to their professional development, and willingness to learn more.” In the final training day, participants prepared individual presentations as their final project. They were to present on a person they admire, their hometown, a favorite recipe, or something unique about themselves. Figueroa also shared, “During their presentations, I was amazed and moved by their stories. The promotoras spoke with passion and conviction, and we got to learn more about who they are..and what buttons not to press!”
We take sincere pride in the commitment of these leaders, which will directly benefit our communities in both the short and long term. Promotores are trusted leaders who reside in FHDC’s affordable housing communities. They work alongside staff to help residents navigate services, foster community cohesion, and advocate for policies that enhance the livability of the communities they represent. Through this program, residents are not just recipients of services; they are agents of change. The leadership of the promotores has led to increased civic participation, strengthened community ties, and more resilient housing environments for over 2,300 residents across 12 FHDC properties. We are incredibly proud of these leaders!
