The event included up-to-date insights into affordable housing in Oregon and across the country from industry professionals and specialty sessions, including one where Maria Elena Guerra participated in a panel focusing on “Mentoring the Next Generation of Affordable Housing Talent”.
Ale, as many call her, recently joined the team and will join the FHDC’s growing asset-building efforts. But Ale is not new to our work. After moving into FHDC’s Nuevo Amanecer community with her family, Ale became involved with the organization and quickly discovered her passion for helping others.
Throughout this journey, Christian has exemplified the values that FHDC holds dear. He has shown us what it means to be a lifelong learner, to embrace challenges, and to strive for excellence. His story is a powerful reminder that with the right opportunities and a strong will, we can achieve great things. He is undoubtedly an example to the new young generation coming to the affordable housing arena.

From across the nation, 1,200 community development leaders, practitioners, policymakers, industry professionals, and National Community Reinvestment Coalition members gathered at the 2024 Just Economy Conference in Washington, DC.
“Across the state — from big and mid-size cities to small, rural towns — Oregonians are straining under the pressure of an increasingly unaffordable housing market,” Governor Kotek said. “But the actions we’re taking today – and will continue to take in the coming years – will be key to creating healthier and safer communities and supporting economic growth.”
Scheduled for construction in Albany, Oregon, the Colonia del Valle Próspero project represents one affordable housing project in a monumental $40 million investment to preserve and construct over 400 affordable homes in Oregon.
