Reflecting on Community at the Heart of Summer Fun

It was a busy summer with activities ranging from STEAM, language, exercise, gardening, and much more! As school starts back up and Summer closes, we want to say thank you to all of our partners and collaborators for making everything possible.

  • Buen Vecino – a training done with The Ford Family Foundation to prepare and highlight potential for a new cohort of Promotoras. We were able to host a couple of trainings, one at Woodburn and another in Independence.
  • Promotora Graduation – we held a formal celebration to thank the Promotoras for their 3 years of service. They were key in helping the community get through the COVID-19 pandemic having distributed over 180 food boxes on a weekly basis for an entire year, helping hold testing & vaccination events, and partaking in the COVID-19 Farmworker Study (COFS) as surveyors among many other things.
  • Enlace Cultural – Bringing all ages together for culture and arts through music and dance. With a 17-year partnership, Enlace is active in Woodburn, Salem, and Independence offering various opportunities to our youth to present in festivals this year.
  • GSOSW Puentes Program – a summer STEM program offered by Girl Scouts of Oregon & SW Washington that is culturally responsive.
  • PCUN informational sessions for fire preparedness.
  • National Night Out – a well-known community celebration, this year we had community partners join and give information, food, and city fire and police officers. It was a wonderful opportunity to build community and reconnect after the pandemic closedown at Woodburn, Salem, & Independence.
  • STEM with Lake Oswego High School’s robotics team
  • Evolve’s TEACH Program – property management training that is mission-driven and culturally relevant for anyone interested in the industry even without relevant experience.
  • FHDC’s HAF Clinic – providing foreclosure assistance that is language and culturally accessible.
  • Zumba class for adults & kids
  • Juntos OSU Extensions – college preparedness
  • Anahuac’s Native Language classes – children had the opportunity to learn Mixtec and Zapotec at both Woodburn and Salem locations and reconnect with their roots as well.
  • Anahuac distribution of community garden chiles & tomatoes
  • Recycling education – Thank you to Marion Environmental Services, we were able to distribute 386 bins to residents in our efforts to be more environmentally conscience.

Thank you partners and supporters for your contribution to making this summer a success!
