Abriendo Puertas: Opening Doors for Farmworkers and Workforce Families

For the end of 2022, FHDC will be highlighting the doors that have opened for farmworkers and youth in our communities. Tune into stories and dreams from Margarita, Ana, Rey, Josefina, Isabela, Edgar, and others about their journeys of self and collective discovery that helped them learn, build, and grow at FHDC.

Our goal by the end of 2022 is to raise $50,000 to support our housing services programming to help farmworker families thrive beyond our housing – in their pursuit of education, health, wellness, and wealth.

Margarita Bautista

This video in our Abriendo Puertas series features a long-time FHDC resident and community leader, Margarita Bautista, who has worked tirelessly to help hundreds of youth in Salem at Colonia Libertad. She oversees the escuelita, after-school activities, and enrichment activities for youth and adults; and has raised her kids and called FHDC home for over 17 years. She supports the Mano a Mano food pantry and other supportive activities so that families like hers can also thrive. I hope you enjoy listening to her as much as we appreciate having her support.

Rey Tapia

The following video in our series features Rey Tapia, a long-term FHDC resident who raised his two daughters in farmworker housing at Nuevo Amanecer. He shares about the programs that helped his kids successfully pursue higher education and the family to buy their own home.

FHDC Youth, Lizeth, Edgar, Aleida, Araceli & Ana share what they want to do and be when they grow up and urge FHDC supporters to continue opening doors for them and others in their communities!

Former FHDC staff member and current Evolve Operations Director, Ana Gomez, shares her experience working with the two sister organizations for 17 years and how our programs helped her to save up to buy a home!

Former FHDC Resident, Promotora Resident Leader & Current Anahuac Staff Member, Josefina Cruz, shares about her experience developing skills in leadership and communication in order to advance and enhance her career and familial opportunities.
