Cipriano Ferrel Legacy Fund | Geovanny Chávez – Featured Resident and Current PSU Student

We are writing to introduce you to Geovanny Chavez, a longtime FHDC resident and current FHDC resident services intern. As a kid, Geovanny grew up in Nuevo Amanecer in Woodburn with his family, enrolling in after-school and summer youth programs, where he thrived. In 2018, as a teenager, he was hired by the Woodburn School District to support summer youth programming at the Cipriano Ferrel Education Center. Since then, he has graduated high school and started college at Portland State University, pursuing a career in public safety. He is driven by the desire to keep families and FHDC residents connected and safe. In his role as an FHDC intern, he works with Resident Services coordinators to bring awareness to FHDC’s programs for youth and families and to create procedures and support to build safety, security, and well-being for our residents.

Geovanny recently took to the camera to say thank you to FHDC’s services, which have made it possible for him to pursue higher education and a career where he can give back to the Woodburn community.

Currently, FHDC is working on the Cipriano Ferrel Legacy Fund campaign to invest in programs that help residents like Geovanny build healthy, secure, and prosperous lives. Funds will be used to rebuild our plaza and ensure consistent programming at our community centers that help thousands of kids and farmworker families gain access to health care, educational support, and financial wealth.
